Lidder River

Mamal Shiva Temple

An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Mamal Shiva Temple is reckoned to be the oldest existing temple in Kashmir is the most visited one as well. Although the major part of the temple is in ruins, that does not deter devotees as they come in huge numbers to pay homage to a shivling installed inside the sanctum.

Kolahoi Glacier

Situated just below Mount Kolahoi is the famous Kolahoi Glacier. Hollowed out because of global warming, Kolahoi Glacier is currently a hanging glacier and an interesting sight. You can trek up the Lidder Valley to enjoy the beauty of this glacier.

Best time to visit Pahalgam .

The best time to visit Pahalgam is from mid April to mid November as the weather during these months is ideal for travel and you can indulge in a host of outdoor activities. July to August is also the best time to embark on a pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath Shrine, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The summer months are March to June. During this time the temperature is pleasant at 25ºC, best for exploring outdoors.

 

How to reach Pahalgam?

How to Reach Pahalgam by Air

Nearest Airport is the Sheikh-ul-Alam Airport , commonly known as the Srinagar Airport, , which is situated almost 95 kms away from Pahalgam. Many Indian flights such as Jet Airways, IndiGo, GoAir, JetLite, Kingfisher Airlines, Indian Airlines and SpiceJet touchdown regularly at this airport and can be boarded from majority of Indian metros and cities.

In order to reach Pahalgam from this airport, you can take the services of a bus or a car/taxi (preferably pre-booked with fixed rates) which shouldn’t take more than three hours to get you to your destination. For a cheaper option, buses are the best way to journey to Pahalgam.

Due to security reasons, all passengers arriving at the airport will have to fill out their personal information, duration and place of stay in a form that’ll be handed out to them.

How to Reach Pahalgam by Train

If you are looking to reach Pahalgam by rail, you’ll find the closest railhead to this place is situated in Jammu, known as the Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

After de-boarding the train, you can either make use of shared taxis, known as ‘service gaadis’ or directly take buses (which aren’t very comfortable, by the way) from Jammu Bus Stand. However, if you find these means of locomotion too tedious, the alternative is hiring a private car. Apparently, reaching Pahalgam by car will prove to be an expensive proposition, but nevertheless, it’ll be most comfortable. The entire journey shouldn’t take more than 8 hours by car and around 12-14 hours by bus.

How to Reach Pahalgam by Bus

Well connected to Srinagar and Jammu by roadways, Pahalgam can be easily reached by buses and taxis that can be seen plying on these roads. If you aren't too keen on travelling on state run buses, you can book your journey with one of the luxurious or even general coaches of the sundry private companies.Hiring a private car is also a good idea to reach Pahalgam.
