Yamunotri
Yamunotri is a sacred holy place of Hindus found in the headquarters of the Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand. The Name Yamunotri is dedicated to the “Goddess Yamnuna”. Yamunotri popularly comes in “Char DhamYatra”. The major attraction of Yamunotri is the “Yamunotri Temple” dedicated to holy river Yamuna constructed by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the 19th century. Yamunotri temple is surrounded by heavy heavenly rock named as “DivyaShila” and as per the custom one should worship it before making an entrance to the Yamunotri Temple. Next is “Surya Kund” located near Yamunotri Temple dedicated to Sun God, father of Goddess Yamuna. The striking part of this temple is the hot water, which is mainly used to cook Prasad and it also has some medicinal values. Shivlingmountain
A natural Rock Shivling submerged in the river where according to legend, Lord Shiva sat when he received the Ganga in his matted locks is visible in the winter months when the sediment content in the waters of the Ganga is least. The Shivlingmountain is located in the Garhwal Himalayas near the mouth of the Gangotri glacier. This is a mountain peak amongst the many peaks at the Gangotri peaks. These mountains come in the region of the Indian state of Uttarakhand and are located at a distance of 6 kms from the mouth of the Bhagirathi river. These mountains are known to resemble the Shiva Linga, hence the name Shivling. This mountain is also known as the “Matterhorn peak and were known as these by the European’s. Gaumukh
18 kms from Gangotri. Set in the heart of the Gangotri peaks, the Gaumukh glacier offers variety in colour in shades of blue and green, with glistening white floating ice bergs is a common feature in June and July. The Gangotri glacier, which lies at a height of 4255 under above sea-level is nearly 24 kms length and 6 to 8 kms in width the best time to visit from June to September. Harsil
Harsil is 6 kms from Jhala in gangotri. It is indeed a beautiful sylvan hamlet. It is situated amidst theincrediple beauty of a mountain 2,620 mts. high. Sightecing here includes the WILSON COTTAGE built in 1864 A.D. and sattar or seven lakes and water falls and valleys.
