Karnataka Udupi

Udupi is a city and the headquarters of the Udupi District in the Indian state of Karnataka. Udupi is famous for the Krishna temple located here. It also lends its name to the Udupi cuisine which is famous across the world.

Temples of Udupi District in the Karnataka state are popular for the temple festivals and rituals. The Udupi district was created in August 1997. The three northern taluks, Udupi, Kundapur and Karkala, were separated from Dakshina Kannada District to form Udupi district. Udupi is a famous pilgrimage, particularly for Asta Math, i.e. eight Matts and Sri Krishna Temple. Udupi is also one of oldest religious educational centers.

How to reach Udupi?

By Air

Mangalore airport is the nearest airport from Udupi is the,  located at Bajpe, at a distance of 60 km. There are daily flights to the airport, from Mumbai and Bangalore. After getting down at the airport, you can hire a non AC taxi for Rs 650 and an AC taxi for Rs 800.

By Rail

Udupi is on the Konkan Railway network,  trains are there  to most major cities of the state, like Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Mysore, etc. From the station, you can easily get a bus as well as a taxi for traveling to Udupi.

By Road

Mangalore city is only 60 km away from Udupi. Express buses ply between Mangalore and Udupi at regular intervals. You can reach Bangalore (406 km) with an overnight night journey from Udupi, through Volvo. There are a lot of buses running daily from Mumbai to Udupi (18 - 20 hours of journey) as well. Apart from that, buses ply to Udupi, from Mysore (313 km) and Goa as well. If you want to drive to Udupi from Bangalore, take NH4 to Nelamangala, then NH48 to Mangalore, via Channaraya­pat­na, Hassan and Sakleshpur and then switch over to NH17, for reaching Udupi via Suratkal
