Madhugiri is a town located in Tumkur District of Karnataka. At the heart of Madhugiri town lies the huge monolith MadhugiriBetta. MadhugiriBetta is 1197m high and is the second highest monolith in Asia after Savandurga. There is a fort and several granaries atop MadhugiriBetta, which were used by the kings to store Ragi, Ghee etc. The climb to the top is steep at many points and should not be tried during monsoons. At the top of the hill there is a temple.

Till Madhugiri direct KSRTC buses from Kempegowde Bus Stand and private buses from KR Market Bus Station are available. The trek starting point is between the government office buildings in Madhigiri. It is essential to carry water while trekking MadhugiriBetta.
The Madhugiri hill is the second largest monolith in Asia and is hugely popular among trekkers. The Madhugiri fort which once belonged to the Tiger of Mysore Tipu Sultan is situated on this hill and can be reached after a considerably tough trek.
The peak height is 3,930 feet and has a rock dome where the fort is situated. If you are trekking up to the peak, you will have to be very careful as the gradient can get very steep at places. However, there are several circular bastions on the way where you can rest.
