The Shankaracharya Temple

The Shankaracharya Temple, also known as the Jyesteshwara temple is located in Srinagar, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva . The temple is located on the summit of the Takt- e-suleiman hill overlooking Srinagar town.The temple dates back to 200 B.C.E although the present structure probably dates back to the 9th century C.E.The temple was supposedly visited by the Adishankaracharya and has ever since been associated with it.

PariMahal

PariMahal (House of the Fairies) is situated just above ChashmaShahi Gardens, about 10 km from Srinagar, in Jammu and Kashmir. It was once a Buddhist monastery, later converted into a school of astrology by DaraShikoh - eldest son of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. PariMahal is a historic monument as well as a well-laid spacious garden. Situated around a small spring, the garden has beautiful flowering plants and various kinds of fruit. Although PariMahal boasted a large number of springs earlier, only a few can be seen today. The mahal, on the spur of a hill, is illuminated at night and can be seen from most places in Srinagar. It overlooks the picturesque Dal Lake.

Hari Parbat

Hari Parbat is a Mughal fort situated to the west of the Dal Lake, on top of the Hari Parbat Hill, in Jammu and Kashmir. This 18th century fort was constructed by Atta Mohammad Khan, an Afghan governor. The walls around the hill was built by Akbar in 1590. Hari Parbat Fort is now a historical monument of Srinagar. Permission to visit the fort is issued by the State Archaeological Department, Lalmandi Square. Sharika Devi Temple, located on the hill, is another spot of attraction.

Shalimar Bagh

Shalimar Bagh, the Mughal garden in front of the Dal lake built by Emperor Jahangir. It is about 15 km away from Srinagar. This garden can be reached by a tree-lined canal. It has four terraces, rising one above the other. The central black marble pavilion in the "Zenana" or ladies" garden is surrounded by water and looks out in four directions. The Garden blooms with innumerable varieties of flowers in spring and autumn. From May to October on every evening, there is a sound and light show which describes Jahangir"s court.

NishatBagh

NishatBagh is Situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop, (11 km. from TRC), this "garden of bliss" commands a magnificent view of the lake and the snow cappedPirPanjal mountain range which stands far away to the west of the valley. Nishat was designed in 1633 AD by Asaf Khan, brother of NurJehan.

The Dal Lake

The Dal Lake is a famous lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. Dal Lake is connected to a number of other lakes in the valley. 500 or more wooden house boats are plying to facilitate the needs of the tourists.Covered in 18 square km and divided into 4 basins (Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and Nagin). Rup Lank and Sona Lank are the islands.During the winter season the lake sometimes freezes over. The lake has some interesting flora and fauna. The flora include lotus flower, water lillies and water chestnuts. Notable birds are kingfishers and heron.

Jammu Tawi, approximately 305 km far, is the nearest railhead for Srinagar. Trains from Delhi, Calcutta, Pune, Mumbai and other cities arrive at this station only. During holiday season, when there is a heavy rush for Kashmir, additional trains operate for and from this station.

How to reach Srinagar by  Road

National Highway 1-A is the main highway connecting Srinagar with Jammu. J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) as well as a number of private Super deluxe, A-class and B-class busses operate to and from the state. Private taxis are also available for traveling to Kashmir.
